Europe Van
LDV Convoy
I just got back from Europe where I drove around several countries in a van. It was a 1998 LDV Convoy with just 65,000 miles on it. It was diesel powered, and could run at 60 miles an hour almost all day. It could do 70 miles too, but it would eat up the fuel. The fit out was pretty simple. It was however extremely reliable, and contained everything I needed to live for more than a month and a half.

The LDV Convoy. It started life as a delivery van but was converted into an Auto Sleeper at some stage of its life.

In a caravan park in London. This was the Crystal Palace campervan park, run by a woman who was particuarly nasty.

From the back.

Looking towards the back, the bed is at the end, the toilet on the left and the fridge on the right. Above the bed is a large storage shelf that was used to store clothing and reading material. However due to constant rainy weather I ended up installing a basic clothes line here as well.

Looking forward. The cupboard and fridge is on the left, driver's compartment at the front and toilet and bench / sink stove combo on the right. There was a huge storage compartment above the driver's compartment..

The bench on the left side of the
van. The bench tops fold down. I added the fire extinguisher myself.
The wires were to provide power to two fluro
lights from a very basic dual battery system I installed.
The shelves above were used for housing toiletries and electrical junk.

The bench tops fold up to reveal the sink and stove. Many times I heated water up on the stove to wash up in the morning.

Looking back again. The windows initially came with very thin curtains that barely blocked out light and were not very good for privacy so I brought some block out fabric to provide greater privacy.

The little 240 fridge that initially was stored in the toilet compartment, along with the drawers below. I brought a pile of screws and brackets and bolted team to the cupboard and floor.

This is the toilet compartment. You really do need a porta potty if you plan to live in a van for any length of time outside of a caravan park.

Doing washing in a big tub on the go.
